Our first NSFW post

That is, if you think you might get in trouble for watching animations of krill mating at work. Otherwise, it's probably just fine. But in any case, the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) has shot some video showing krill mating at greater depths than scientists thought they would. Unfortunately I can't embed the videos directly.

The Australian scientists think this information might have implications for the management of the krill fishery. Dr. So Kawaguchi of the AAD also noted:

“After trawling through hours of video we noticed in one segment, filmed at 507 metres depth, a frenzied twirling of three krill, which turned out to be two males pursing one female,” he said.

“The whole mating ritual only lasted 12 seconds and had five distinct phases which we’ve labeled the ‘chase’, ‘probe’, ‘embrace’, ‘flex’ and ‘push’.”

Who knew krill were so naughty?
