Block New International Whaling Deal

Can we let the International Whaling Commission take a step back in their mission to protect the world's whales? As I mentioned last week, plans are underway to end the whaling moratorium first approved by the IWC in 1982. This new deal would allow countries like Japan, Norway and Iceland to legally slaughter whales even in the Southern Oceans. Despite the large coalition of international environmental non-governmental organizations who are highly vocal and active in their opposition of this new deal, it still appears to be moving forward. In June, the IWC will be meeting in Morocco to vote.

It is imperative that the Obama administration is made aware of this deal and that they understand its unacceptability.

You can help! You can contact President Obama at www.whitehouse.gov/contact or phone the White House comment line: 202-456-1111 or contact your Congressional representative at www.congress.org. Please urge them to oppose the IWC deal allowing commercial whaling. Our position should be that Japan, Norway and Iceland must end their illegal whaling activities now!
